Groom Cakes Part 1

Everyone remembers the ardvark red velvet cake from Steel Magnolias, right? Well the grooms cake has roots in the south but its making a come back and moving north. I seem to be getting this request a lot and I love to brainstorm on ways to surprise the groom, and ways to involve him.

These days a grooms cake is usually themed after something personal to the groom. I have seen a cake decorated like a baseball, a golf putting green or even a football helmet. I surprised my hubby to be with a guitar shaped cake in his favorite chocolate flavor - we ate it at the rehearsal dinner.

Whatever you decide make sure you find out your grooms favorite flavor! Check out Ace of Cakes on the Food network for some truly amazing designs.

Alternative Registry Ideas

So recently some of my clients have inquired about other ways to register - for a way to possibly give back. A lot of couples these days already have the basics and don't need to get another blender or set of wine glasses.

Couples can suggest to their guests that they donate to a charity on the couples behalf. www.justgive.org provides a registry with lots of nonprofits to select from. The charities are are divided out by cause, then alerts the couples when gifts are made.

The other option and a little more traditional is www.idofoundation.org. This way you can register like you normally would but those registries give back. A percentage of the value of their gift is donated to a charity of your choice.

Of course there are a few other ways to give back as well. Purchase a honeymoon and/or invitations that will give a percentage to a charity of your choice. I have had a few couples give money to the Komen Foundation or the American Heart Association in lieu of favors in honor of loved ones.

Packing and Moving

As most of you know I am moving to Philly. We have spent the last month packing up the house and getting it ready to sell. This is one of the most stressful times - dealing with packing, finding a place to live, getting the house clean and spiffied up for open houses as well as setting up appointments with home inspectors etc. We are living in a condo in downtown Philadelphia until we sell our houses and can find something in the suburbs.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our house SOLD!! and is mostly packed up, thanks to both sets of parents. The movers come next Monday to pack up my china and crystal and move all our stuff into storage. I am ready for a place to 'BE' - a home, instead of driving back and forth every few days to deal with the move. That's the Cancer sign in me.

I am also ready to enjoy a new city; check out the restaurants and parks, tour the Liberty Bell and King Tut at the Art Museum and get to researching new wedding venues. Summer in the City.

Cameron and Nick

This couple and I have been working together for over year and now they are honeymooning in Cabo after a very successful wedding. The wedding was all about Fushia and Lime - and having fun!

The reception was held at the Westin Grand and we used fun bright linens and lighting to create amazing atmosphere. The band Janitors were a hit and had the guests dancing the whole time!
