Kid's Table Decor

Are you having a 'Kids Only' table at your wedding?
If so -don't put a floral centerpiece on the table - think of something interactive for the kids.

Simple would be butcher paper with a bucket of crayons and markers in the center tied with some balloons.

or more elaborate - a lollipop cone! Saw this at Martha Stewart.com - would be easy to recreate with a cone shape, paint, glue and some ribbon. There are instructions here.

This would also be great for a candy table at a wedding or at a Kids birthday party.
You could use rice krispie treats on a stick or chocolate covered strawberries or something not edible - think of the theme of your party.

Maybe I will try this for Gavin's 1st Birthday party - I am still dreaming up the perfect theme!!

Chalk it Up!

Check out these cool containers from Pier 1!!
They would be a nice addition to the ever popular candy buffet!
You can write the candy type right on the container. ($10-14 each)


Use the stemless glassware with a floating candle then write the table name on the glass; or use on your cocktail tables and write your monogram on it, or maybe words that go with the theme of your wedding.

You've Been Ghosted

I know I posted this last year but wanted to encourage more Ghosting by my readers.
My neighborhood does this and it is so fun! who doesn't love Halloween Candy.

You've Been Ghosted

-Now it's your turn to 'ghost' one other house in our neighborhood
-You should 'ghost' this house within in 2 days of receiving your treat
-Hang the ghost on your front door so that everyone can see that you have been 'ghosted' and will not ghost you again. This will also let you know who you can ghost
-Fill 1 bag with candy and treats. Copy this letter and the ghost. Include treats, letter and ghost in your bag of goodies for the neighbor that you choose
-After dark, and only with an adult, 'ghost' your neighbor. Do not let the person that you are 'ghosting' see you, for it adds to the fun of it all. Place the treat bag on the doorstep, ring the doorbell and run!
-It will be fun to see how many ghosts will appear in our neighborhood by Hall0ween.

This is soo cool - Great for your neighborhood or coworkers.

So go have a spooktacular Halloween!

Halloween Party 101

Are you throwing a spooky Halloween Party this year?

Here are some ideas to pull off a fun party-

First impression is the invitation:

(check out tinyprints on the right for more ideas)

Then think about the front of your house or apt - you need to set the scary mood.
Candles hanging from trees, spooky music and maybe a fog machine.

Use these spider stands from Lillian Vernon either on your door stop or right in the foyer.

Offer guests a drink as they arrive-from the Vampire Punch Bowl (trick is to put a flat cab light underneath to illuminate)


A spider chip and dip container from Ballard Designs to hold

Another idea is to use mini pumpkins as a dip holder - just carve out the center and voila.

Don't forget the restroom decor - Fill a glass container with candy corn and top with a candle.


Carve out some pumpkins and set around your table or bar.

You should have a black and white candy bar set up. Don't forget little bags for guests to go Trick or Treating before they leave.

Year in Review

Well I thought I should write something about 2007 - sum it up with some thoughts and pictures to let you know a little about what happened.

It was a good year but lots happened. After my husband got a new job, one that would allow him more time at home and more time in general, we moved to PA. This meant leaving a house, friends and a business that I was comfortable with. This was a big step but moving to PA wasn't so bad as this is where I grew up.

I decided to move the business and get into the Philly market while still doing weddings in the DC metro area. Exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. So Philadelphia Couples I am here to stay and ready to be your wedding planner.

In 2007 I was named to the 'Knot Best of Weddings', published in The Hill newspaper, The Express Newspaper, Bridal Guide Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine. I am super excited about that as I enter my 7th year of planning.

I want to thank my clients - it was a pleasure working with you, creating your wedding memories with you and experiencing your joy as you were a guest at your own wedding!

It was the year of the candy buffet, grooms cakes, large wedding parties, beautiful linens, special dances and lots of unique elements.

I also want to thank my wedding professionals for doing your job, coming through in a pinch and helping to make my clients day wonderful. Planning a wedding is not as easy as it looks, it takes hours of planning, organizing and putting together a great team to implement the wedding day.

I also want to report that two of my spring brides are expecting 2008 angels - can't wait to hear about more.

Blissfully Happy

That is how Sarah and Rob looked Saturday night at their wedding. I had worked with them for about a year, planning every aspect of their event. The theme was formal black and white with touches of red. Ceremony on the front lawn of Bristow Manor then dinner and dancing in the adjoining tent area. The candy buffet and grooms cake were a hit with everyone.

It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect, the bride was glowing and I swear Rob couldn't stop looking at his new wife. They are headed to the Greek Islands for a honeymoon. Enjoy some of the non professional pictures.

Sarah and Ariel

I don't think I have ever seen a couple more in love. Saturday night Sarah and Ariel made everyone want to be in love and to dance! Their wedding reception was at the Westin Gateway in Arlington. Westin's are always ready to do something different, for example they found this industrial shelving unit for me so we could display the cocktail hour food, check out the cool fork display.

The wonderful couple met salsa dancing and got to show off a little for a few dances at the reception. They looked incredible gliding across the floor together.

Sarah used a color pallet of gold and wine with touches of orange. Between the uplighting, the mix of square and round tables, the monogrammed gobo on the dance floor and the matching menus and escort cards to the amazing food and service this was one amazing event. To top off the great evening the guests made take away candy boxes from the candy buffet. Even adults like to remember being a kid once in a while.
