Don't forget the Groom

A lot of brides really want to include their groom in the wedding plans and sometimes they just don't care about colors, dresses or food. They just want it to be nice and they want you to be happy. A good way to get them involved is to have them pick some things they want for the registry or maybe make a Man Registry.

You should pass this on to your hubby to be. There is the registry options which encourages adding things like tools sets, camping equipment and cameras but there are also articles and how to guides for them.

From the brains behind the site: "Men are afraid to ask a lot of times about what they need to know, like they may not know what a cuff link is or how to put one on," Easter says. "There aren't a lot of avenues out there for that information, let alone a chance for men to supplement their wedding registry."

I particularly like the articles on bachelor parties and wedding toasts.

Year in Review

Well I thought I should write something about 2007 - sum it up with some thoughts and pictures to let you know a little about what happened.

It was a good year but lots happened. After my husband got a new job, one that would allow him more time at home and more time in general, we moved to PA. This meant leaving a house, friends and a business that I was comfortable with. This was a big step but moving to PA wasn't so bad as this is where I grew up.

I decided to move the business and get into the Philly market while still doing weddings in the DC metro area. Exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. So Philadelphia Couples I am here to stay and ready to be your wedding planner.

In 2007 I was named to the 'Knot Best of Weddings', published in The Hill newspaper, The Express Newspaper, Bridal Guide Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine. I am super excited about that as I enter my 7th year of planning.

I want to thank my clients - it was a pleasure working with you, creating your wedding memories with you and experiencing your joy as you were a guest at your own wedding!

It was the year of the candy buffet, grooms cakes, large wedding parties, beautiful linens, special dances and lots of unique elements.

I also want to thank my wedding professionals for doing your job, coming through in a pinch and helping to make my clients day wonderful. Planning a wedding is not as easy as it looks, it takes hours of planning, organizing and putting together a great team to implement the wedding day.

I also want to report that two of my spring brides are expecting 2008 angels - can't wait to hear about more.

Blissfully Happy

That is how Sarah and Rob looked Saturday night at their wedding. I had worked with them for about a year, planning every aspect of their event. The theme was formal black and white with touches of red. Ceremony on the front lawn of Bristow Manor then dinner and dancing in the adjoining tent area. The candy buffet and grooms cake were a hit with everyone.

It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect, the bride was glowing and I swear Rob couldn't stop looking at his new wife. They are headed to the Greek Islands for a honeymoon. Enjoy some of the non professional pictures.

Groom Cakes Part 1

Everyone remembers the ardvark red velvet cake from Steel Magnolias, right? Well the grooms cake has roots in the south but its making a come back and moving north. I seem to be getting this request a lot and I love to brainstorm on ways to surprise the groom, and ways to involve him.

These days a grooms cake is usually themed after something personal to the groom. I have seen a cake decorated like a baseball, a golf putting green or even a football helmet. I surprised my hubby to be with a guitar shaped cake in his favorite chocolate flavor - we ate it at the rehearsal dinner.
